Arlington Neighborhood Village (ANV) is a volunteer-driven non-profit organization, serving 455 residents 55 and older in Arlington County, VA. ANV’s mission is to enable its members to continue living in their own homes as they age. ANV offers practical and social support to ensure seniors of all backgrounds and economic means can age in place within a vibrant, caring community. For an annual fee, members have access to a variety of volunteer-provided services such as transportation, errands, tech help, and minor home maintenance, as well as social, educational and wellness programs. ANV has a generous Discounted Membership Program which makes ANV membership possible for lower income older adults.
Position Description
Arlington Neighborhood Village (ANV) seeks a dynamic Development and Communications Manager to lead fundraising and communications efforts. This key position is responsible for establishing and implementing strategies that increase ANV’s financial resources and visibility within Arlington County. The role will spearhead development initiatives including individual giving, corporate partnerships, foundation relations, and major gifts, while simultaneously overseeing all organizational communications to engage stakeholders and promote ANV’s mission. The scope of duties is broad, but should be read in the context of the size of the organization; ANV’s annual operating budget is around $500,000. This position will work in close collaboration with the Executive Director.
Development (60%)
- Develop and execute ANV’s annual fundraising plan in collaboration with the Executive Director and Board
- Secure financial support from individuals, foundations, and corporations through strategic cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
- Create and manage comprehensive individual donor program, including annual giving campaigns, major gifts strategy, and planned giving initiatives
- Research, write, and manage grant proposals and reports for foundation and government funding sources
- Oversee donor management, ensuring accurate records and timely acknowledgment of contributions
- Collaborate with Board of Directors and Development Committee on fundraising strategies and donor engagement
- Monitor fundraising activities to ensure goals are being achieved, providing regular progress reports to leadership
Communications (40%)
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy to increase ANV’s visibility and impact
- Cultivate new and deepen existing community, nonprofit, and local government partnerships to increase membership and volunteer recruitment
- Work in collaboration with ANV’s Executive Director and other staff on outreach and messaging and engage volunteers to help get the job done
- Provide oversight for the production of branded print materials, including the organization’s quarterly newsletter, brochures, and annual reports
- Ensure ANV’s website content is up to date and effectively communicates the organization’s mission and impact
- Oversee social media presence and digital marketing initiatives
- Create integrated messaging that effectively communicates ANV’s mission and impact to diverse audiences
- Represent ANV at community events and speaking engagements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 3+ years of progressive experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, and communications
- Demonstrated success in securing gifts from diverse funding sources including individuals, foundations, and corporations
- Experience creating and executing successful fundraising campaigns
- Familiarity with fundraising/donor development systems
- Strong grant writing skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to engage diverse audiences
- Proficiency with digital marketing tools, social media platforms, and graphic design software (like Canva)
- Sensitivity to and experience working with culturally diverse populations
- Strong organizational, time management, and project management skills
- Alignment with the mission and values of Arlington Neighborhood Village
Schedule and Compensation
The Development and Communications Manager’s schedule is 30-40 hours per week, working in a hybrid combination of telework and in-person at the ANV Office. Compensation is dependent upon experience, up to $32.00-$35.00/hour. ANV provides employees working 30- 40 hours per week with a retirement plan, a health stipend, and paid leave.
