You can easily donate assets held in various financial accounts by using a POD (payable on death) or TOD (transfer on death) designation. POD designations are used for checking and savings accounts, CDs, and savings bonds. TOD designations are used for brokerage accounts. Creating a POD or TOD designation takes just a few minutes. Neither designation can be used with IRA, 401(k), or 403(b) retirement accounts.
